Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Katie Weathers.Not the Warrior of Light as people knew her, nay, but… in a way…An Miqo’te orphan of the Shroud, she spent most of her days fighting to assert the right to live. Food and shelter were hard fought for and well earned, but still, this young girl dreamed of more.Being so lonely and struggling so hard, she dreamed of being recognized and beloved by all, a stark contrast to her current existence. To go from forgotten to world over recognized, to do what she could for everyone who got missed over like herself. No longer fighting to take, but to give back.Maybe it was these powerful dreams of the future that had first bestowed upon her the Echo. But every night she was plagued by a dream. It started beautifully enough… her laying in a clearing that seemed almost from a painting. Of flowers all around, and bathed in some sort of heavenly light. All at once though, the peace and serenity of it ended… she realized quickly she was bleeding, dying. The light seemed to overtake her… her heart seemed weak.. No…Like a few others before her, Katie Weathers was born with an Echo that allowed her glimpses into the future. But this one vision, of her own end, was constant… haunting. Only driving her more… with this dread fueled need to be remembered. She couldn’t die..One day along her patrols, as she called them, for food and people in need… she finally found one. A shy and soft spoken Viera girl about her same age… feet dangling in a river bank, the light framing her nearly angelically… Katie was honestly a bit intimidated at first, at such a sight. The clearing looked unnaturally like the one from her dream.But there was something almost…It felt like her heart was crying out. She had to meet this girl.It turned out the girl was soothing some wounds on her legs, hurting due to the mistreatment of ill-suited guardian, who treated her simply as a burden.The Viera, who seemed to even lack recognition of her own name, seemed unsure of how to be around people or even some very common knowledge. But as Katie started to visit her ever so often in this beautiful little clearing, Katie started to recongize there was something special about this girl. She felt so strongly, like even a small happiness seemed so large to her, and she seemed to feel not only her own emotions, but Katie’s, and sometimes even the world around her.They would meet often growing up, and even though the world was unkind, they at least had each other.The Calamity was harsh for everyone. After the worst of it, Katie had managed to sneak out from her now suddenly busy schedule helping out her small little village with odd jobs to try to visit her friend. But her friend wouldn’t show. After a while, Katie started to fear the worst… but still made it out there whenever she could.Then one day… she found her… being chased!A pack of vicious looking hunters seemed to have cornered her. She was bleeding and looked distraught, and confused… she was crying out in pain and anguish. Without thinking, she charged in. What meager fighting skills she had learned over the years were suddenly pushed to the test, but her affection and desperation saw her through. She managed to chase them away… but not… without cost.There it was. Happening. She was laying amidst these flowers, and here she was… bleeding out. Panic started to set in, of her dreams unfilled. The only difference was that the light was replaced by her sobbing friend, who was cradling her in her lap.The Viera’s own distress seemed to be really affecting her, her own wounds serious as well. She seemed more confused than normal, unsure of what was going on… she begged Katie to help her understand, who even she was, who even Katie was.Katie sat and lay, staring a her friend… the one person who might have remembered her would be lucky to remember anything it seemed. Her heart cried out… which seemed to make the Viera hurt even more.“Katie Weathers… just… wanted to… help everyone. An adventurer… who makes everyone smile. That’s all…”As consciousness started to slip away from her, the light seemed to grow… and grow. Despite being at the end of her life… she felt one of her Echo visions threaten to take her. Consume her. She somehow felt she would never wake from this one…and unfortunately, she had no choice but to let it take claim to her…Suddenly she was sitting in a cart? She looked at her own legs… and saw an unfamiliar but familiar sight. Not her own, but that of her friends. Was she seeing… the princesses future now? Where might this lead?…..Once upon a time, there was a girl who… she couldn’t… remember.Her own memories were muddled. She could not remember. Anything..
Thoughts were swirling. Confusing, conflicting thoughts. A name. But not her own? No… or was it?But… as she stumbled about in the forest… clutching her heart… she felt two sets of thoughts, and feelings… but one set them was..No.. no.. every time she tried to tap into those feelings she felt fear. Confusion…But the other there was warmth…She opened her eyes… the pitter patter of wheels rolling along. A cart to Gridania? What was Gridania? In fact, what was a cart? When had she gotten on the cart?Voices… asking her questions. Who was she? What was her name?She tried to think, tried to feel, but the thoughts in her heart recoiled. No. No.The warm thoughts wrapped her up in a hug, though. They told her to hold their hand… it’ll be okay. Let them take over. For now.“Katie Weathers.. I’m an adventurer.. I just… want to help everyone!”

Plot Overview

My character in a sense, has two personalities.One is "Angel" and is the main girl, the actual person of sorts. She's the girl described on the earlier page. A soft spoken, sweet tempered, simple, gentle, empathetic girl. She isn't a true entelechy, at least not on the level of Meteion, but she was always designed with magical empathetic ability, way before EW came out. It only helped finalize my story.The second personality is "Katie Weathers". This was her best friend, a plucky, energetic, dorky, earnest girl with heroic dreams who loved praise. A sorta sillyhead who would do anything to be told she's doing a good job. Prone to seeking adreanline rushes, a bit of a tomboy.As her best friend lay dying, having sacrificed herself to save "Angel", two things happened.Angel had always fed off Katie's thoughts and feelings, them being her only glimpse at the outside world. But near death, the intensity of Katie's feelings, thoughts, and self got mingled up in her own.Angel was distraught, scared, and super confused. But Katie's fire desperately wanted to go on, to live, and they were stronger. Over time it started to become dominate in her mind.At the same time, Katie, the actual girl, was getting one last Echo vision of the future, having lent her best friend her strength, she is blessed with a vision of "Katie Weather's" journey ahead. The heroic journey that she always wanted. To do good.Because Angel created effectively a copy of her personality and thoughts, through dynamis, in her mind, and because Katie sees the future, the vision feels authentic and real to her. Like she's an active agent in the events. If anything, Katie assumes over time that she is simply sharing the body with her friend, by some sorta cosmic accident. In a sense she is.Over the journey, Angel's personality starts to assert itself more. The events get a bit hazy from Katie's dream Echo perspective, but it's fine.. so much had gone on. So much achieved, she finds comfort in seeing her best friend start to grow in front of her.. or inside her.The ending of Katie's journey, the ending of her conciousness, brings her to End. During the events on Ultima Thule, Angel and Katie reached a state they had never achieved before. Somehow one whole self, instead of two seperate girls. When everything else slips away, they have each other during the walk to the End.When journey ends, the curtains begin to fall.. Katie goes out with a bang. To defeat the "villian" of her piece, Zenos. A truer villian there ever was, who gave so much to just get ta glimpse of the Katie inside her. Angel took a backseat as Katie took control, fully, for the first time since the early days of the journey. One last dance.When Katie Weathers wakes up in the Raganrok, saved from the jaws of death.. Angel is now finally alone. The ghost of the past, viewing the future, finally slipping away.Although the Katie personality she created through dynamis still is within her, it is now simply that, no longer given "spiritual blessing" though a vision seen.Although the original Katie would never be bothered by this. Whatever source of strength it offers in the coming battles, she only is thankful to have made a mark on the world like she always dreamed to.

Dawntrail Additions:

At the end of Endwalker, the girl known as Angel (although not by herself) has learned of the true nature of her two selved person. The Dynamis created version of her best friend, who died long ago.However, Katie knows that her place so far in the world has been it's protector, it's hero. Although she desperately wants to keep the memory of her friend alive, she feels a little off just always tapping into that part of herself, effectively becoming a memory. A memory of a friend lost. However, she feels incapable of being the hero the world, and her loved ones, need, without doing so. And also not doing so feels like it would be denial of the legacy and name her friend wanted to leave behind.So in a crossroad, she's brought to help Wuk Lamat discover herself. In it she learns of the Turali people, and their culture, especially resonating with the tales of how someone truly doesn't die until no one remembers them.She did a lot to make sure people don't forget Katie Weathers. To make sure that everyone knows that name. She wants to continue to do so... but who will remember her? What is her? Should she just give up pretending and let that bold and playful hero take her over? What good does the world have for gentle, melancholy, soft, introspective Angel?At the end of the journey in the New World though, she meets someone whose journey she resonates with. A gentle, caring, and soft soul nevertheless pushed by circumstance to do large things for the people she cares about. Someone whose love for her those around her inspires her, and whose ultimate almost giving up the self reasonates every so strongly with Katie's own dark thoughts.In the end, her soul sisters journey teaches her to not give up herself. That there is something strong inside her.. and she will carry that strength with her forever. So Sphene will never be forgotten. Like Katie, she carries on inside her. Like her friends.She just wants to find out what the next step is. How can she best become.. herself, while still staying true to the legacies she carries?

Extra thoughts:

When I first started ARR, I based the WoL on Katie Weathers. She's a superhero OC of mine. She fit the sort of character who would do heroic stuff, and do whatever she needed to. She's a favorite character of mine, and usually the person I play when I play games.However, starting Shadowbringers, I gave being a Viera a shot. To come up with why my character would suddenly look different for me, since I didn't want to actually do Fantasia.. I came up with an idea.What if, in the First, she fused with effectively "herself" in that region.. and that self was Angel, another OC of mine. (The one I named myself after, yes.) This way I could explain and expand the transformation.The two girls one body thing was really fun muse, and Shadowbringers was so good that I started having fun RPing like never before.Unfortunately, we know how the end of Shadowbringers goes.. they stole my idea for Ardbert. ;-;For the enterity of Shadowbringers after the fact, I decided to just change the muse to always being Angel. Abandoning my original muse for the character, I replayed the game to imagine how an Angel would have experienced her journey. Instead of my plucky wannabe hero, the WoL was a soft and maidenly empath. I suppose. I still missed the original muse, but over time, I at least was comfortable in my understanding of how Angel would have reacted to events.Then, EW hit.. and Dynamis. Boom. Magical empath suddenly had mechanics which to actually be a magical empath.. and the muse hit me hard. I didn't need to abandon my original muse. I could go back to having two, as one. ♥That's Katie now. Although narratively, the last moment the original Katie experienced was her fight against Zenos. (The girl that Zenos always wanted to see shine from Angel was always Katie, my little heroic adrenaline junkie, and they died together at the End.)

♥ Katie doesn't know where she came from or really, who she is. The start of the "adventure" is as early as she remembers, with nothing previous to hold onto but her name.♥ Even this point her name, "Katie Weathers" is a memory that feels "far away" when pressed to explain who she was, it was the first thing that escaped her lips."I"m Katie Weathers... of... Gridania?"♥ However, no one in Gridania recalls seeing her in town, and in fact most assert they would definitely remember a Viera girl such as her growing up in town.♥ Due to this, she spends the beginning of her life in somewhat lost. Through Miounne's urging, she joins the Adventuer's Guild despite her uncomfortableness with fighting.♥ Miounne's repuation as "Mother" is surely tested by Katie, who struggles with some very basic things in her early days. Unable to read ( a fact still true to this day) and barely able to feed herself.♥ But eventually Katie finds her groove in helping others. Although seen as very strange; her soft, sweet, inquisitive nature and eagerness to help eventually wins over enough locals to meek out an eager sort of living.♥ It is not long before a sort of magical aptitude is noticed in her, but, even more so then that.. a sort of innate empathic ability. It becomes assumed that she might have some ability to communicate with the elementals.♥ Her ability to do so is limtied, primarily, however, to feeling their ambient emotions. The Elementals, post-Calamity are frightened and angry.. and these intense beings equally intense emotions scare Katie, who struggles at first to cope with them.♥ Skipping much later in her journey, Katie eventually discovers about Troupe Falsiam during their tour of Eorzea, and of 'Totentanz' and finally finds a place where her empathetic abilities and desire to feel "seen" find a natural meeting point. She finds much fulfillment in helping people heal from their negative emotions.♥ These days she still mostly spends her time helping others, and although her innocent and wide-eyed nature is still present, she is known as a sort of nuturing, sweet lady who often volunteers with children, and loves to help put on festivals in particular.

Personality

Katie is an innocent soul with a fresh-faced outlook on the world. She delights at simple things and has a somewhat simplistic moral system, stuff is obviously good or obviously bad to her. She expresses herself earnestly when she has stuff to say, and has little shame. She wears her heart on her sleeve.Despite seeming very gentle and soft, she often will suddenly seem to flip a switch and become a total bouncy energetic girl, with a goofy grin on her face. Suddenly tugging someone along for a run to nowhere, she loves to laugh, and make people laugh in turn. Her attempts at it often come off as dorky, but earnestly so.She is a little removed from society, somewhat because of her background and is often suprised by things others take for granted. A fish out of water.This isn't to say she can't be bright or wise when she needs to be, and is known by those who consider her friend to be a great listener. She is an adult, in the end, and through her journey still carries a strength that is undeniable.She introspective, and carries a sort of atypical wisdom, one that strips away all complications and gets right to the heart of things. She loves learning new things each day, although she often forgets the things she does learn.Her empathetic nature leaves her very receptive towards peoples feelings and she seems to have a near sixth sense for it, which is great in dealing with people. She often is very gentle and nurturing to those who need it. On the flip side however, she can be very sensitive and easily brought to tears.Because of this, when she gets sad and melancholy, or angry, she can she often becomes distant and detached, and stares off into space.When the chips are down though and she has to defend what she loves, it seems like she detatches strongly from herself, becoming so full of purpose that she would dare anyone to keep up with her dance.

I'm a trans girl. ♥I started playing when Heavensward just came out.My favorite character in FFXIV is Meteion, and she's probably just my favorite character of all time.Space imagery is super important to me.. (So I really loved Endwalker.)I originally only got into FFXIV because I wanted to do glamour endgame with a Lalafell.My first couple years playing were just that.I enjoyed the story and had the idea for Katie, a gentle, empath WoL looking for a home she can't remember, but it was just a fun thing to imagine as I played a just "fine" story.Shadowbringers was when I started really putting Katie together.I wasn't very interested in Viera at first, almost upset at their inclusion. But then when the Shadowbringers Benchmark came out I felt an instant connection to one of the faces..So now I have two characters. (Yes, Lalafell Katie still exists!)
